The year of the OX (1)

Today I learned that this is the year of the OX (1/26/2009 - 2/13/2010) and I am an OX! More specifically I am a WATER Ox.
I will be learning and exploring the subject with information from different websites and write my reflections on them.
Let’s start with Wikipedia:
“The Ox ( 牛 ) is one of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar. The Year of the Ox is denoted by the earthly branch character 丑. In the Vietnamese zodiac, the water buffalo occupies the position of the ox.

The Ox is the sign of prosperity through fortitude and hard work. This powerful sign is a born leader, being quite dependable and possessing an innate ability to achieve great things. As one might guess, such people are dependable, calm, and modest. Well I won’t deny that I think of myself of a hard worker and I think I have achieved great things in my life so far (and hoping to achieve many more). I am not sure I am that calm and modest. I know that I have made really a lot of improvement in my quick temperament. I am a much more patient person (and teacher) that I was 5 years ago. And modest… hmm.. that’s a hard one. I am Argentine, how you ever met a modest Argentine? :-)

Jorge Gonzalez and Rachel Rogness, Guitar and Violin Duo, will perform instrumental pieces from Colombia, Argentina, Cuba and Spain.
The young dancers from Corazón Latino will present traditional dances from the North West region of Argentina and a modern dance choreographed by the dancers.

Wendy Everett and her dance partner will present some traditional dances from Mexico

A one person show for small children investigating Minnesota's historic connection to water. This performance is bi-lingual (Spanish/English) and for preschool through 3rd grade youth. What makes a shower and what keeps all the grass so green? What can help you brush your teeth or dive into the deep? Water of course! The water that we know so well...or do we? Help Dr. Hardwater and his assistant Gotagorda answer questions about water, like where does it come from? and where does it go?

Ready to teach, or am I?
Monday January 5th, 2009 school resumes and I was soooooo ready to go back. Just to find out that morning that I was not feeling well. Not sure what it was. I had a headache and a sore throat that I immediately attributed to the dry air in my apartment. I bought a new humidifier and I hope that helps. Just in case I am taking Tuesday off as well. Lots of liquids and resting. I wish I would say that I extended my holidays for two more days but I was really looking to go back to teaching! Oh well, patience.

En el nombre del cielo pedimos posada... In the name of heaven we ask for a place to stay...
The Christmas Story as youve never done before. The story of the holy child being born in our midst here in Midtown Minneapolis.
This unique holiday show combines street theatre, puppetry and a torch-lit procession based on the Mexican tradition of Las Posadas. And the audience is part of the action!

Best of Iowa and Best of Minnesota
Every year I present sessions at two State Associations: IWLA (Iowa World Language Association) and MCTLC (Minnesota Coundil on the Teaching of Languages and Cultures)
This year I have been honored with two distinctions:
1) "Best of Iowa" for my presentation Drama games for the FL classroom
2) "Best of Minnesota" for my presentation Poesías y canciones para los más pequeños
I will be presenting both sessions and representing Iowa and Minnesota at the 2010 Central States Conference (CSC ) on the Teaching of Foreign Languages in Minneapolis.
